One of the reasons that Frome Street Carnival Charities Association is so special is that it is a registered charity which supports individuals, organisations and good causes in the local area.
The charity's fundraising events throughout the year allows it to put on the carnival – which can cost many thousands of pounds. Once these expenses are paid, any extra money – and most importantly, that which is donated during the processions – can be passed to the charity.
Donations are given out to local individuals, organisations and good causes in the form of grants or the purchase of specific items. In the last year, the charity has given away more money than ever before:
• Provided individuals with much needed household items, like white goods and carpets.
• Given £5,000 to Fair Frome, allowing them to buy a van for their new furniture bank.
• Supported one of the Frome Primary Schools.
• Provided funding to Frome Refresh who donate toiletries and sanitary protection to vulnerable teenagers.. To Visit the event website click > here

The Malmesbury Carnival has been going for over a hundred years! The first mention of Carnival is from 1917 when it was held where our Primary Care Centre is now. But even before that there were local street parties, fairs, fetes and shows. Carnival has even had a book published about it.
No - but lots of people think that. The Carnival is now a whole month of events held through August. It has changes every year, with events ranging from open gardens to open mic, bands to beer festivals, high jinks to history talks, wine tasting to wine bluffing. And of course, every year Carnival has the Parade!
Bringing the whole community together – Malmesbury town and all the local villages - to support local causes. Oh, and having fun.. Lots of fun!
In 1935, the Malmesbury Carnival raised £117, 10s and 10d? No-one really knows the total, but Carnival must have raised an equivalent of over £1 million over the years.
In Malmesbury, the Carnival has supported: Malmesbury School and St Josephs Primary; Abbey Little Stars baby and toddler; the Library; HEALS; sports clubs including Marlins and Tennis; Athelstan Players, and Museum; film and history societies; beaver, guide and scout groups. In our surrounding villages, Carnival has recently supported: Lea pre-school; Luckington Community School; Oaksey Youth Club; Crudwell and Sherston beaver and scout groups; Brinkworth Earl Danby School. The list goes on……

This evening, at 19:30 (7:30pm) the Wiltshire Caledonian Pipes & Drums will gather at the Tidworth Town Council & Tidworth Civic Centre, not just as musicians, but as participants in a civic service, organised by the Officers and Councillors of Tidworth Town Council, to mark a single moment that echoes through time – VJ (Victory over Japan Day), the day the Second World War in the Pacific ended.
It was on this day, 80 years ago, that the world breathed a collective sigh of relief: a moment of profound peace after years of unimaginable conflict, destruction and loss of life.
Our band, has many members and family who serve or have proudly served in the British Armed Forces. We all have a deep connection to this history and our lives are built on the shoulders of those who served and fought bravely to protect the freedoms which the Western World still, for the moment, continues to enjoy.
This evening we shall remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who were injured and traumatised, those who paid their own price to bring the world to peace. The music we play, and the traditions we uphold, are a living tribute to the courage and sacrifice of all who have served.
While we are only a band of musicians, we are immensely proud of our heritage and of the unconditional sacrifice of others, which has enabled us to perform at this evenings service, at Tidworth Town Council & Tidworth Civic Centre.
We understand the weight of duty and the value of peace. Our role is to honour that legacy. The sound of the pipes, a sound that echoes from the battlefields of the past across the parade grounds of today, carries with it the spirit of resilience, remembrance and hope.
We play to ensure that the sacrifices made, culminating in VJ Day, are never, never forgotten.
So, as we play, let us remember the men and women who endured the hardships of war, the families who waited, and the world that was delivered peace. Let the notes of our pipes be a call to remember, to respect, and to cherish the peace we all enjoy today.
The Wiltshire Caledonian Pipes & Drums are proud of this heritage, and we will continue to carry it forward with honour. We invite you all to join us, this evening, in this simple act of remembrance for those who gave their all so that we, our children and our children's children can live our lives as free people.
